PC2019 player ratings
« on: August 31, 2018, 04:39:44 pm »
At some point if we have a lot of people working on these we can convert to a google sheet
to handle live changes etc. For now though its just excel, so best if we have just one person working on each club.

Instructions:
- grab the spreadsheet.
- so far it has all players who played a game in 2018.
- The script i used to grab them from the web did some rough guesses based on their stats for the season. Not accurate at all, just a starting point.
- tab 1 (calculations and lists) is the data for the dropdowns on the ratings tab, and calculations for position ratings. Dont change anything here. (useful to look at for reference though)

To build a player:
- go to your club's tab.
- fill in the skills (green). Ratings will calculate from those
- use dropdowns for original club/state
- dont edit anything in blue or grey.
- for adding a new players, you can just add a row. PlayerID can be generated from any one of a number of online utilities like this: https://www.guidgenerator.com/online-guid-generator.aspx

Balance
- first pass through we can just get players roughed in, then comb through them a few more times as we get closer to release
- As a rule of thumb AFL standard players will rate generally in the 60-100 range.
- PC2011 distribution looked like this: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Ew0YdEm8Jox2m2nBlDzM1uLZ3006DtBbRsyKQHQ2zfE

I'm just working on draft details/origin club/state at the moment as well as adding in players that Grenville has left out that are still currently under contract. Have finished Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon, about to do North Melbourne.

Essendon VFL Side missing from potential Origin Club Name, recently added to the VFL. Any chance of changing that and having a former club history to exist (i.e. Franston Dolphins/Bendigo Bombers in the VFL, NSW-ACT in the TAC Cup)? Also any chance of creating a Mini-Draft draft option as well as a Pre-Selection option and a category B rookie option in the draft section?

Thats great progress, thanks. These will all be highly subjective and no doubt get plenty of debate, but nice to get things rolling.

Unfortunately the spreadsheet is too big to attach in the free forum (512kb limit, and its ~600kb zipped), so emailing it around it probably quickest option.

I havent touched the VFL club list since i started wirking again and need to do some updates. If you can email me spreadsheet with changes (ad@sthcross.com) I'll rework the VFL club list, update it and upload changes.

Thanks mate

I have emailed you, Grenville, about the changes I have done to Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon and North Melbourne. I'll give Gold Coast a go now.

Thanks all & G'day Haydo.

I've fixed up the VFL clubs and reserve affiliations. I'll grab Schods changes from my email,. update the club list and re-upload so they're up to date.

Thanks mate. Curious to hear honest appraisal of how you find rating players with the new model vs the PC2011 version?
I'm hoping it feels a lot more intuitive/natural now - was certainly forced in the past.

What i can say with certainty is that these tie in very strongly with the sim contests.

Now that the VFL sides are sorted out, wanted to circle back on other questions here.
VFL Club history could be added. It'd be a tough, manual grind but if it was in the club XML the game should handle it. If you (or anyone) feels strongly enough to build that out I can get it in there for you.
I actually just got done with the AFL club seasons 2011 -> 2018 so we have a complete history in game again ready for PC2019.

I'd like to get Cat b rookies into the game. On the roadmap for sure but lets see how we go getting Free agency & other big ticket items done first.

Can you tell me more about what you had in mind for the minidraft? Expansion teams had them some years back, as did SANFL before there were reserves sides there. I wasnt aware of an active minidraft system still operating?

I was meaning for the mini-draft and zone selections to have a separate section in the draft history of the players, so you are able to see how the player was drafted to the club rather than having their draft history blank.

Just noticed that there is no Adelaide in the SANFL in the Regional Clubs Section.
